SAN PABLO (KRON) — The man accused in a San Pablo DUI crash that killed four people, including two children, on Interstate 80 on Saturday has made his first court appearance.

Fred Lowe, 47, of Sacramento, appeared at his arraignment on Thursday to appoint a defense attorney.

His bail was increased to $4.2 million.

A U.C. Berkeley baseball player survived the crash that killed four of the player’s family members.

Daryl Horn, 50, and Joseph Horn, 14, both of Napa, and Troy Biddle, 52, and Baden Biddle, 12, both of Bainbridge Island in Washington, died in the crash that happened at 8:10 p.m. Saturday near the San Pablo Dam Road off-ramp, according to the Contra Costa Coroner.

California Highway Patrol officials say a car traveling in an eastbound lane of I-80 crashed into another car causing the second car to flip over, land in the westbound lanes and collide with three other vehicles.

Officials say four passengers in the car that flipped over were killed.

Six people in other cars were injured.

Lowe is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.
