YOUNTVILLE (KRON) – A gunman has taken three people hostage Friday at the Yountville Veterans Home in Napa County and families are eagerly waiting to hear their loved ones are safe.

The facility located at  260 California Drive was put on lockdown at around 10:45 a.m.

Authorities have established a hotline to connect people with their loved ones: (707) 948-3331.

They are urging people to not show up at the facility, instead call the number above.

KRON4’s Terisa Estacio spoke to a father whose daughter was at the facility at the time of the incident.

Her school, Justin-Siena High School, was using the theater at the facility to practice a play.

Authorities are now saying that the students have been taken out of the Lincoln theater, which was not near the situation.

Jan Thornton of Vallejo is among hundreds of relatives worried about their loved ones at the home.

Thornton says her 96-year-old father – a WWII fighter pilot – is inside a hospital wing.

Thornton says she’s still shaking and that she hasn’t been able to talk to her father. But, she says she was able to talk to one of his friends, who is also locked down, and that he told her that her father is safe.

She says her “heart just bleeds for the people that are being held hostage.”

Though she thinks her dad is safe, she is still worried about the stress of the situation, considering his age and that he has post-traumatic stress disorder and some dementia.

The veterans home is the largest in the U.S. housing about 1,100 men and women.

Reports say a man wearing body armor and some kind of automatic weapon entered the facility’s dining area and took three people hostage.
