MHPD encourages parents to talk with their children to reinforce the severity of these types of actions. There is an increase of threats being made at schools across the nation and all threats will be taken serious and prosecuted no matter what the intent.

Here is a statement from the school district:

Yesterday morning, a Sobrato High School student found a note indicating a possible threat to campus. After a quick and comprehensive investigation, Morgan Hill Police Department determined that there was no credible threat against the school. Once it was clear that our students were not in danger, staff quickly went to work with the help of our student body to identify the author of the note. Yesterday afternoon, MHPD made an arrest and the student was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.

The safety of our students and staff is paramount. MHUSD does not tolerate any threat that will jeopardize the safety of our campuses and work closely with MHPD to bring such instances to an expedient end. We commend our courageous students who came forward to quickly to bring the note to staff attention. The bravery it takes to tell an adult when a fellow student is not acting in the communities best interest is commendable and should not be lost in the significance of the situation.

With the increase in threats against schools on the rise across the country, we will continue to be vigilant and take each threat seriously. At the same time, we will continue to build a community of trust on our campuses to make certain that students feel safe in being an upstander.
