Thieves stole all of the computer equipment from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa overnight last week, according to the non-profit.

Last Tuesday, the staff found that thieves stole dozens of items, including computers, monitors, keyboards, and other valuable equipment, from an on-site storage unit.

The thieves made off with $20,000 worth of equipment.

While the club is insured, the staff does not know the impact financially the theft will have.

“It is really heartbreaking that anyone would literally steal these learning opportunities from underserved children in our community. This equipment and materials were investments for our youth for computer lessons and summer camp programming. We will move on, but this is certainly a tough hurdle for us,” CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa Dana Fraticelli said.

The summer program is expected to start on Jun. 18. It serves up to 74 children each summer, ages 6 through 12.
