While it was highly expected, the Warriors officially released veteran forward Omri Casspi Saturday night.

The announcement comes after the Dubs’ 126-120 loss to the Pelicans at Oracle Arena, the team’s final home game of the regular season.

The move practically locks in guard Quinn Cook into the Warriors final playoff roster spot, though it isn’t official just yet.

Cook had 21 points and seven assists against New Orleans and has averaged 17.7 points and five assists over the last 13 games including 35 made threes on a 51 percent clip.

Not only will Cook help the reigning champs on their quest for a third title in four years, but he will likely start at point guard come Game 1 of the postseason in place for the injured Stephen Curry.

As for Casspi, Bob Myers signed the nine-year forward to a one-year deal last summer.

But Casspi’s production wasn’t close to that of Cook’s, as he averaged just 5.7 points a night in 53 appearances for the Warriors. He missed a handful of games with a recent injury which hurt his stock, but even when he was on the court, his play wasn’t anything memorable.

Cook has also been tied to a recent rumor of a looming two-year contract.
