San Jose police are releasing more details surrounding an officer-involved shooting Sunday.
According to officials, police officers responded to an apartment in the area of S. 10th and E. Williams Streets just before 7 a.m. on a report of an armed robbery/home invasion.
Police had responded to the same location earlier that morning on a previous disturbance call.
Police say the the individuals involved in the earlier disturbance were reported to be the same suspects who had kicked in the front door of the apartment.
When officers responded to the scene, the suspects fled the scene.
One suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Ezequiel Flores of San Jose, was followed to the roof of a nearby carport where the officer believes he then jumped down into the parking lot of a nearby business.
Authorities say once the officer got onto the roof, the officer saw Flores climb out of a large 55-gallon drum.
At this time, police say the officer saw a handgun in the Flores’ hand and gave him commands to drop the handgun.
Police say Flores did not drop his gun.
The officer then shot Flores in defense, according to officials. Flores was not hit by gunfire.
Flores was later taken into custody after he was caught in the area by another officer. He was taken to a hospital for a leg injury he most likely suffered from jumping over a fence, according to authorities.
The second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was later located hiding in a nearby yard and was taken into custody.
Flores was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Robbery, Burglary, Brandishing a Weapon in presence of a Peace Officer, and other charges.
The officer was placed on routine paid administrative leave while the criminal investigation continues.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Bert Milliken or Detective John Figone of the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 408-277-5283.
