A hiker died after falling at Half Dome in Yosemite National Park Monday afternoon, according to officials.
Park Rangers were notified at around 4:30 p.m. that a man hiking on the Half Dome cable had slipped and fallen.
Officials say he was hiking with another person during thunderstorm activity.
Park Rangers arrived on scene and provided assistance to the second hiker.
Rangers recovered the fallen hiker’s body at around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
No further details about the incident are available at this time.
This is the first fatality on the Half Dome cables since 2010 and this is the first visitor fatality in 2018.
The identity of the deceased hiker will be released pending family notification.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
