Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff used the grand opening ceremony of the new Salesforce Tower in San Francisco on Tuesday to talk about the crises the city faces with homelessness.

Benioff challenged tech companies to help him raise $200 million, an amount which he said would get every homeless person off the street.

He spent 20 minutes on this topic, virtually his entire part of the grand opening stage event.

“We want this tower to be a beacon to families living on the street,” Benioff said. “We are thinking of you”

Benioff used most of his time at the grand opening ceremony of the new Salesforce tower in San Francisco to remind people about the homelessness the city is facing and his goal to end it.

“We are going to set a goal of $200 million and end homelessness,” Benioff said.

Benioff has been donating millions to and working with Hamilton Families Heading Home Initiative, an organization focused on finding long-term housing for homeless families in San Francisco

“Today, with $30 million, we can get families off the street and once (we reach) $200 million, we can get all 7,500 homeless off the streets,” Benioff said.

Jennifer Friedenbach is the executive director of Coalition on Homelessness in San Francisco.

She says it will take more money and more resources after a large sum of money like $200 million to fully solve homelessness in San Francisco.

If you want to take a closer look at the charity, Benioff is asking people to donate.
