A Santa Rosa woman is OK after a paintball missed her head by millimeters when it came whizzing through her open car window while driving northbound on Highway 101 in Petaluma.

On Friday, KRON4 talked with the woman who wants to warn others about what happened to her.

“Shocking someone could do this to another person,” Rachel Thurow said.

On Thursday, just before 2 p.m, Thurow says she was driving on Highway 101 about a mile north of the East Washington Street exit.

“I heard a loud bang,” Thurow said.

Rachel says a blue paintball came through her open driver-side window and splattered inside her car.

“I don’t know how it didn’t hit me in the head,” Thurow said.

Rachel says this blue paint on the inside of her passenger side trunk window is where the blue paintball exploded.

“I got no sleep last night because I thought if it had hit me in the head–the big accident it would have caused,” Thurow said.

Rachel says her window was the only one open, so she believes the paintball would have had to pass right by her head based on where it landed.

There is an outdoor paintball facility in Petaluma called Playland, but they have barriers set up, and it’s a couple miles away to the south of where Rachel says she was on the highway traveling north.

So, it is unlikely a rouge shot from the paintball park.

“I’m for sure not going to be keeping windows down on Highway,” Thurow said.

CHP said there are no witnesses and no leads.

They have not had any other incidents.

“I just want others to know,” Thurow said.

Thurow says from now on, she will be keeping her windows up when driving on 101.
