One person is injured after a traffic stop in Union City ended in gunfire late Monday night, according to Union City Police Department.

Around 11:35 p.m., officers tried to pull over a car in the area of E St. and Railroad Ave.

A shooting broke out between officers and the people inside the car, police said.

The driver and two passengers in the car are all underage, police said.

No officers were injured in this exchange of gunfire.

“One suspect drove the car to the area of Railroad Avenue and Whipple Road and all three suspects ran into the surrounding neighborhoods,” police said. 

Police found all three suspects and took them into custody. At least one of them suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital.  His injury does not appear to be life-threatening. 

Police say “multiple” weapons were recovered, but they declined to identify what type.

“There is no on-going danger to the general public as a result of this incident,” police said.
