MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A semi-truck dangled from a bridge in Manatee County for more than an hour during the busy morning commute on Friday. The driver of the semi truck made it out safely.
At 7:18 a.m. deputies responded to a report of a truck dangling off the northbound side of the JD Young Bridge on Interstate-75 in Manatee County.
A Florida Department of Transportation camera showed the semi’s white cab dangling from the bridge with traffic backed up behind it.
Authorities closed all northbound lanes of I-75 during the incident which caused a big traffic backup.
Florida Highway Patrol investigators say Troy Betts, 49, of Sarasota was driving a 2006 Peterbuilt 385 semi truck with a trailer in the northbound center lane of I-75, just south of US 301. A white car in front of him changed lanes, moving from the right lane to the center lane.
Betts tried to avoid the car and lost control of his truck on the wet roadway. The cab of his truck wound up dangling off the bridge.
