A new poll by the Bay Area Council says people are in favor of adding more police officers on BART.

The council asked Twitter users how they felt about adding more officers to the transit system.

The results were 75 percent agree that more police patrols could help.

The president of the council calls it an “overwhelming plea” for more help in keeping everyone safe.

BART has been under a lot of pressure since last month’s stabbing death of young woman Nia Wilson.

A range of added security measures has been proposed and some of them have been adopted, but the council says it’s not enough, calling it unfair to BART riders to keep them “hostage to a system where they don’t feel safe.”
