Unhealthy air quality is polluting the Bay Area skies due to the smoke from the western wildfires on Thursday, officials said.
The current air quality in San Francisco is at red, which is unhealthy.
People with lung diseases, like asthma, children, and older adults are being asked to not be outside for too long. Officials are also urging people to exercise indoors.
The current air quality index is at 154, which reads, “People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.”
The smoky conditions are expected to last through Sunday.
Residents are encouraged to stay indoors and keep the windows closed. Set air conditioners to recirculate until the conditions get better.
Smoky air can cause eye, throat, and sinuses to irritate. Coughing and wheezing could also happen.
