A 17-year old senior at San Mateo’s Serra High School died on Monday after driving off a highway and into a tree.

A statement released by the school described Redwood City resident Blake Bottarini as “a kind and caring young man.”

Bottarini was driving his pickup truck to school, north on Skyline Boulevard when he veered off the road and hit a tree.

The truck then fell about 45 feet down an embankment.

It does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Here is the statement from the school:

It is with profound sadness that we grieve the loss of Serra senior Blake Bottarini, who passed away Monday in a tragic car accident. Blake is remembered as a kind and caring young man. Beginning Tuesday, counselors and Campus Ministry staff members will be available to support students and their families. As a Catholic school community, we pray for the repose of Blake’s soul and for the healing of his family, especially his mother, father and twin brother Evan ’19.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by members of the Serra student body for anyone wishing to make a contribution to the family. Please click the link below if you are interested in contributing to this fund.
