A woman says an East Bay priest molested her and others for years, and now, she is demanding action and answers from the Oakland diocese.

This comes on the heels of that big announcement from the San Jose diocese, saying they will name priests who were found to be predators.

Kathleen Stonebaker says Stephen Kiesle, a priest at St. Joseph’s Church in Pinole, molested her. She says Kiesle sexually abused her for years, as well as other girls and boys.

And now, she is demanding justice. She wants the Oakland diocese to crack open the books and disclose who knew what when and where.

Stonebaker is pushing for more now, especially after the San Jose diocese announced it plans to name priests credibly accused of sexually abusing children. It is all part of the bigger scandal facing the Catholic Church after a Pennsylvania grand jury announced a sweeping indictment exposing predators hidden by the church.

Stonebaker says Kiesle threatened she and others to keep quiet.

Kiesle was defrocked from the Catholic Church and served time at San Quentin for molesting a child. He is now a registered sex offender listed on Meghan’s Law with a Walnut Creek address.

Stonebaker says although the statute of limitations ran out on her case, she is still fighting and wants the church to come clean.

The Oakland diocese told KRON4 they have launched an investigation but have not determined whether to name priests accused of abuse in the past.
