Jimmy Garoppolo is officially out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during the fourth quarter versus the Chiefs on Sunday.

After an MRI confirmed the injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan says it was not the news he wanted to hear.

“It was hard waking up today,” Shanahan says. “We were down, disappointed about it because we were looking forward to a lot playing with Jimmy this year and going through the good and the bad that would happen, knowing that he would benefit from all of it.”

In Garoppolo’s place, CJ Beathard will start moving forward. The niners also have plans to work out several players on Tuesday.

When the team goes into the offseason, Shanahan says they will start Garoppolo’s rehab early.

“I think it’ll make him that much more hungry next year. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll come back.”

Other injuries for the 49ers include:

  • Richard Sherman – Out for 2-3 weeks with a calf strain.
  • Mike Person – Questionable this week with a knee sprain.
  • Matt Breida – Questionable this week with a hyperextended knee.
