There are a number of holiday traditions for families, friends, businesses, and so on during the holiday season.
For the Salvation Army, their tradition is the annual Turkey Carving event for those in need.
On Wednesday, San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, Police Chief William Scott, along with other command staff members volunteered to help prepare for the Thanksgiving meal delivery program on Thanksgiving Day.
Between the fire and police departments, about 1,600 pounds of turkey is carved which feeds nearly 4,000 people.
The Salvation Army volunteers will deliver meals to people who are unable to leave their homes in San Francisco.
The meals include gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, swiss chard, cranberry sauce, apple juice, apple cider, and hot chocolate mix.
Fire Chief Hayes-White has been volunteering at this event for 15 years and says she will continue to volunteer even after retirement in the spring.
The event took place on Wednesday at the Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Center at 8:30 a.m.
