NAPA, Calif. (KRON) — A suspect has been arrested after one person was shot in the head during a highway shooting Friday morning on CA-29 near CA-221 in Napa, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

All lanes going northbound were closed after the shooting around 6:40 a.m.

The victim was taken to a hospital outside of Napa County, and the motive of the shooting is still under investigation.

The suspect was seen driving northbound on CA-29.

A few minutes later at around 6:48 a.m., a carjacking was reported in downtown Napa on Clay and Franklin Street. The carjacking victim was not injured.

The stolen car was seen on CA-221, where the Napa County Sheriff pulled the driver over and made an arrest on Streblow Drive around 7 a.m.

The suspect arrested for the carjacking was also the person of interest in the shooting, authorities say.

The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Tuong Nguyen. The transient was booked at the Napa County Department of Corrections and is being held without bail.

Lane Closures

All lanes going southbound on CA-221 Friday morning in Napa are now open after being shut down for a few hours earlier around the 8 a.m. hour, according to a 511 alert.

The closure happened at Magnolia Dr., which is near Napa Valley College where traffic was rerouted through the college’s parking lot.

Northbound on CA-29 to Northbound CA-221 are now open after being previously being closed for hours, the alert said.

All lanes are reopened and traffic is expected to return back to normal as the traffic alert from 511 was lifted.
