It would take years with many obstacles to overcome but the Westside is about to undergo a major transformation.
The city is expected to join forces with Google on a huge development deal in downtown San Jose.
After much public testimony, the city council will be voting on whether to approve a land sale to Google for a massive transit village and campus west of Highway 87.
The city council met Tuesday and the meeting is expected to go well into the evening.
The land sale to Google could brings as many as 20,000 jobs to the city but there are worries that it might make affordable housing even more scarce than it is now.
Google is offering to pay more than $100 million to city-owned land surrounding Diridon Station.
In total, Google would develop some 50 acres to include a Mega Campus with office space for the workers.
Business leaders are hailing the development as a game changer for the city.
