What was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek joke about shredding kids’ letters to Santa turned out to be far from funny
The UPS Store on Sunday tweeted, “If your child addresses a letter to the North Pole, you can leave it with us. We do shredding.”
UPS deleted the tweet Monday after noticing “things [were] going in the wrong direction,” officials told BuzzFeed News.
“We did not want to take away from the magic of Christmas,” said Staci Reidinger, a public relations representative for the company. “[The tweet] was just to get people laughing.”
A few Twitter users voiced their opinions on the tweet, comparing it to the Grinch or Scrooge.
“So I see the UPS has a new CEO,” one person tweeted.
“Who hurt you, UPS?” another responded.
“Shredding childrens dreams… damn UPS is cold,” another said.
Others pointed out the error in grammar.
“I didn’t know UPS offered child shredding,” one person said.
“Good to see UPS advocating the shredding of children… I cannot believe that social media interns are not given even basic non-participial dangler modifier training!” another said.
